Conflict between substantive and formal authority

שו"תקטגוריה: generalConflict between substantive and formal authority

Hello Rabbi
In my opinion, in the Corona event we are experiencing a rare conflict – the leading doctors and scientists (apparently substantial authority) claim that there has been a great exaggeration in the response to the event, and that the lockdown needs to be lifted. In contrast, the authorities justify the lockdown and even enshrine the guidelines in law (formal authority).
A person who is accustomed to thinking critically and using their intellect (in my opinion, and unfortunately, most people are not) – shouldn't they act according to those with substantial authority?
I don't mean that he should organize a civil uprising (or maybe he should) but simply cancel and completely ignore the authorities' instructions (as long as he doesn't get caught and punished).

In principle yes, but here you are wrong. The experts propose a different policy, but this is a comprehensive policy and not the behavior of individuals. For example, many recommend loosening the lockdown more, but at the same time completely closing the elderly. If you loosen the lockdown more than the government, you also have to close the elderly at the same time, and this is not under your control. Therefore, in my opinion, it is correct to obey the instructions of the authorities. Incidentally, there are all kinds of experts and each one says something different. Therefore, your choice among them will not necessarily put you in a better position than the government.
