Taxes VS Charity
Shalom Rabbi Michael
Does anyone today who pays income tax, including standard taxes on paychecks, consider it charity?
After all, some of this money goes to National Insurance, which helps the weak, etc.
Or you could say because the state gave and I don't it's not considered a charitable act at all.
thanks
peace

The jurists disagreed on this. In simple terms, at least, the part that goes to the poor is charity. But public needs are also considered charity. And the fact that they are forcing me is no different from the law of coercion for charity.
Although there is a problem with tithing because I am obligated to it, and what I am obligated to do may not amount to tithing.
