Shabbat beer and a good neighbor
I wanted to consult with the rabbi about an incident that happened to me last Shabbat.
We were in the garden with my family, and we invited our neighbor, who does not observe Shabbat, and his children, to join us in playing with our children. Out of goodwill and kindness, the neighbor offered me a bottle of beer to drink.
At first, I tried to think about whether there was a concern that the act of bringing the beer would desecrate the Sabbath. I couldn't imagine that, since it was possible that the beer had been prepared in the refrigerator beforehand. However, after I took the beer and started drinking it, the thought crossed my mind that perhaps the light in the refrigerator had been left on, and when he opened the door, the light came on, thus violating the Sabbath prohibition.
I thought there might be room for leniency, since it was daylight, and in any case he could see the beer even without the interior lighting, so turning on the light is not related to taking out the beer because in any case he could take it out without the light turning on, especially since I didn't want to hurt him or cause him unpleasant embarrassment when he acted generously.
In the end, I drank the beer, but I was left with a halachic dilemma.
Did I act correctly according to the Rabbi's opinion ?
