Q&A: A Contradiction Between Relativity and Quantum Theory
A Contradiction Between Relativity and Quantum Theory
Question
I know that there is a contradiction between the theories in the EPR experiment. Are there other contradictions as well? Is the basic line of thinking necessarily different? And if so, in what way?
Thank you
Answer
This is not my field, and I’m certainly not up to date on the current state of things. In general, beyond the contradictions, so far they have not succeeded in building a complete theory that is both quantum and relativistic. If I understand correctly, since in the theory of relativity forces are equivalent to the curvature of space, quantizing relativity requires quantizing space itself, whereas quantum theory itself assumes a given space and operates within it. But this really is not my area.
