Abstaining from Relations with a Niddah During Pregnancy
Question
Hello Rabbi,
According to the Talmud, one must abstain from a niddah at the time of her expected period even during the first three months of pregnancy, when the pregnancy is not yet visibly recognizable. Nowadays, when there are pregnancy tests and people know even before three months whether the woman is pregnant, would it not be appropriate for this law to change?
Answer
I am not familiar enough with the medical reality to know whether a menstrual period truly cannot occur during pregnancy. And even if that is so, it is no less significant than a stain, and than the stringency adopted by the daughters of Israel.
