Q&A: Second Wave of Corona
Second Wave of Corona
Question
Hello Rabbi,
What do you think caused the failure to prevent the second wave, and what could have been done differently?
Excessive optimism among the public?
A conscious choice to prefer the risk of death for at-risk populations over economic harm?
The public’s “lack of patience” to comply with restrictions over time (irrational behavior)?
Ongoing pressure from the media to remove restrictions?
Indifference in the government?
Answer
It is hard to determine. It seems that all the answers are correct.
Discussion on Answer
The answer is that the Government of Israel never made a decision to eradicate the coronavirus.
And in general this is not a second wave at all, but a first wave that they managed to delay a bit.
If the Government of Israel had wanted to eradicate the coronavirus, it could have been done. At the same economic cost that it has cost us until now.
But from now on the economic cost will keep rising because the coronavirus was not eradicated and many businesses will collapse.
Hello and greetings,
Do the Rabbi’s conclusions regarding the Haredim in column 290 still remain in force?
Thanks in advance,
Benjamin
