Q&A: Breaking the “Coronavirus” Lockdown for Livelihood Purposes
Breaking the "Coronavirus" Lockdown for Livelihood Purposes
Question
Hello Rabbi,
How should one relate to a person who breaks the “coronavirus” lockdown for livelihood purposes, claiming that he has nothing with which to feed his children?
Best regards, Benjamin
Answer
With tolerance.
Discussion on Answer
Obviously. A private individual cutting corners is not a clear and present danger. Far from it. And if there is great need, it is certainly understandable that he cuts corners. If a person is a confirmed carrier, that is of course more problematic.
Michi, it seems you have sky-high tolerance for some of the questioners here.
I’m working on my character traits. 🙂
As for tolerance toward those who violate isolation, what about the categorical imperative?!
The categorical imperative says that any person who is in economic distress should cut corners. That is a general rule.
Is breaking the lockdown with such a claim less severe?
