Q&A: Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah
Question
Hello, honorable Rabbi,
I would be very glad to know the Rabbi’s opinion regarding the prayers on Rosh Hashanah. There are places, such as in the Lithuanian yeshiva world, where the prayers are very long, and I want to know whether there is any value to long prayers, because ostensibly what difference does the length make? Personally, it is very hard for me to pray for that long. And also, are these prayers the service of the day?
Thank you very much
Answer
I have my own opinion about prayer and the benefit in it, but that is unusual. Be that as it may, it is clear that there is no value at all in a long prayer, certainly not if it just annoys you.
Discussion on Answer
I didn’t understand. Are you asking what the commandments of the day are on Rosh Hashanah? As for the judgment and what affects it, I have no idea.
On the other festivals there are active practices to do, like matzah or sukkah and that’s it. So my question is whether on Rosh Hashanah too there are active practices like the shofar and prayer and that’s it, or whether there is something beyond that in order to influence the judgment.
