Question
Hello Rabbi
I’m attaching an opinion that argues Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef’s books should be removed from IDF bases, because it’s inappropriate for books by someone who preaches draft evasion and refusal to serve in the army to be kept on army bases.
The question is a principled one and not specifically about Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef. Let us assume, just for the sake of the question, that his books are indeed excellent and have great value for studying Jewish law, etc. Should one relate to the person himself who wrote these things, or to their content—and if the content is good, should the books be kept even if this is a person of low character?
Answer
These discussions really don’t interest me. People are venting anger. The book should be judged on its own merits.
