What is the Rabbi’s view regarding broad survey study of the Talmud / Shulchan Arukh and other areas of study? What is the Rabbi’s view regarding review of such study? Is it still needed nowadays, when there are many databases that collect sources for every topic? Does this kind of study have any value at all?
I would be happy for a somewhat detailed answer in general about what the Rabbi thinks about this. And if the Rabbi has ever written something organized about this as well, I would be happy for a reference.

I don’t really have much to elaborate on. Knowledge is always a good thing, even in the age of databases. True, its importance has diminished, but it still exists. I can’t lay down firm rules about how much time and effort to invest in it. Each person according to his own inclinations. Use common sense.
