Q&A: I Also Wanted to Say Thank You Very Much to the Rabbi
I Also Wanted to Say Thank You Very Much to the Rabbi
Question
Rabbi Michi, my heart goes out to you. I was struggling with so many things, and completely by chance I came across the Rabbi (through an interview with Roi Yozevitch), and for me it was truly a lifeline and a game changer. I so deeply appreciate the Rabbi’s enormous and all-encompassing body of work. The Rabbi has an ordered, lucid, and coherent Torah outlook, and it is a real pleasure.
To fulfill the obligation of asking a question: a strange question — I’m in reserve duty and until now I haven’t managed to have a meal. Should I have a meal with bread now, right before the Sabbath, or does the Jewish law against having a fixed meal before the Sabbath take precedence? Thank you very much.
Answer
After the fact, start now; finish before sunset. Eat a little so that you’ll still have an appetite for the Sabbath.
Happy Purim
Discussion on Answer
He could have started and continued into the Sabbath — "spread a cloth and recite kiddush."
You don’t need to eat bread at the Purim meal, so in any case he could have eaten something that does not count as a fixed meal, and then there wouldn’t be a problem with the Sabbath
Okay, thanks!
