It is not a guarantee of being a decent human being—either way: there are decent people even though they do not study, and there are people who study and are not decent human beings. “For those who misuse it, it becomes a potion of death.”
The conclusion is that one must study, and at the same time one must be careful to be a decent human being. Proper conduct comes before Torah.
