Hello.
My question concerns the issue of the sectors that exist in Israeli public life: is their entire essence a mechanism of preservation and restraint in the face of the collapse of identity created by the West (and therefore are they a mosaic of ideas that arose, each for its own historical, social, psychological, and temperamental reasons), or is this rather an essential infrastructure that has accompanied the Jewish people through its many disputes, perhaps justified ones. (My question is not about sectoral codes/slang/clothing and the like.)

You present things as if there are two dichotomous possibilities here. Clearly this is not only about standing against the West, but against other things as well. And with respect to all these fronts, every sector contains some of this and some of that, each sector in a different proportion, and each sub-sector differs from other sub-sectors within the same sector. How do you expect any answer to such a general and vague question?
