There is no prohibition in this. It is simply stupidity. Perhaps according to Maimonides, who holds that all the prohibitions of “be wholehearted,” “do not practice divination,” “do not practice soothsaying,” and so on are prohibitions against stupidity—there is a prohibition in this as well. It seems to me that the attitude of the Chabad Hasidim toward the Rebbe while he was alive was much closer to idolatry than their attitude toward him after he died.
