Q&A: The Purpose of Life
The Purpose of Life
Question
Hello Rabbi,
After slaughtering sacred and impure cows in the site’s articles, I’m left confused about this issue.
Does the Rabbi have any explanation at all for the purpose of creation? Of humanity? Of revelation? And so on?
I would be glad for an answer, because after what I’ve been reading, this is something I’m missing. Thank you.
Answer
I didn’t understand the question. Who has any idea about the purpose of creation? I can know what tasks were assigned to us: to observe the commandments, to be moral, and to develop the world as much as we can. But what were the Holy One’s purposes? I have no idea.
Discussion on Answer
What you mistakenly understand as creation is God. Example: what you mistakenly understand as a snake is a rope.
Why does there need to be a purpose? God isn’t supposed to operate like we do (and even we don’t act only because of purposes).
The question is why the Holy One would care about morality, or commandments, or the world. I understand there’s no clear answer to that, but even a hint of an idea?
