Hearts for Eating
Question
Hello and blessings,
In my unit in the army, they’re having a barbecue. They’re bringing kosher meat there are some people who keep kosher, though they don’t see themselves as especially religious. Today they brought hearts that haven’t been koshered not cut open and not cleaned of blood. I assume they’ll just put them on the grill like that. Does that make the whole grill and the rest of the meat forbidden? Or is it only the hearts that I shouldn’t eat?
Thank you.
Answer
Everything becomes forbidden (“disqualified”). You’re cooking kosher and non-kosher meat there together.
Fortunately, in the end they didn’t prepare the hearts, and at the end of the event they brought someone from the base who knows how to kosher meat.
If at some point they did prepare unkoshered hearts on that same grill, would the grill become forbidden?
