Valid Morality
Question
Hello Rabbi, in your view is there valid morality without the Torah? And if so, then why did the Torah need to command us, “and do what is right and good,” if in any case we are obligated to morality?
Thank you very much
Answer
First, that is not a commandment. No one counts it among the commandments. Second, there are quite a few things written in the Torah that we would know on our own. The Torah apparently wants to say that there is Torah value in moral conduct (and not only moral value).
Does the Rabbi know why those who enumerate the commandments do not include this in the count of the commandments?
