Rabbi Shagar and Paths in the Service of God

Question

Hello Rabbi,
What do you think about Rabbi Shagar’s worldview?
What is more correct to do: to receive guidance in a particular path of serving God from a certain rabbi, follow it, and only afterward examine whether it is right; or to build a worldview from the outset by learning from all kinds of sources and rabbis with different opinions, and build a spiritual world on one’s own?
How far should I go when examining my worldview? That is, should I look into Christianity to see whether Judaism is right? Or should I examine things only within the boundaries of Judaism, to see whether I am on the right path for me in the service of God?
Thank you very much

Answer

You can see my review article on his book Broken Vessels, and also a YouTube lecture marking the publication of his book Tablets and Broken Tablets.
What’s more correct is whatever seems right to you. If you find someone whose guidance is helpful to you, then go and learn from him. And if not, then you need to search on your own. In the end, it’s obvious that you are building your own world, and the only question is whom to use for help. That’s not an important question, and there is no universal answer to it.
You should examine anything that, in your view, is a possible option. I don’t really have anything to tell you about that.
