Q&A: Failure to Report Taking Psychiatric Medication to the Recruitment Office
Failure to Report Taking Psychiatric Medication to the Recruitment Office
Question
I would like to join the police as a regular officer. At the police recruitment office they require confirmation from my family doctor regarding any regular medications I take. Am I allowed to ask the doctor to omit the medications I take (an antidepressant) and declare to the police that I do not take any regular medication, and in that way be accepted into the police? I am worried that declaring that I take antidepressants will cause me not to be accepted for the position…
Answer
Unfortunately, this seems to me absolutely forbidden. There is a reason they ask for such declarations, since it could affect your functioning. Perhaps in a case where you have no doubt that this is merely a pointless formality there might be room to be lenient. I do not think that is the case here.
