Q&A: Annexation or Two States?
Annexation or Two States?
Question
Hello Rabbi,
If Judea and Samaria are annexed, and presumably as a democracy our new citizens are given full equal rights, do you see a problem here?
Compared to the two-state solution, is this option the lesser evil, since the two-state solution could lead to Gaza 2?
Answer
I do indeed see a problem here (a threat to the Jewish majority). It is hard for me to get into security and policy assessments, and I also do not think I have any added value on these issues. I once wrote here about my view of our situation vis-à-vis the Palestinians, and about the difficulty of forming a position when not everything is in your hands. In principle I would prefer two states, and to respond to every provocation with a heavy hand and without mercy (which we are not doing in Gaza). But just talking about two states without saying what the policy is and what we would do in each situation is not serious. It seems to me that in one of the posts I once gave an example of forming a position regarding the disengagement without talking about the policy that would accompany it.
