Strictly According to the Law
Question
Hello, honored Rabbi, and happy holiday! Can the Rabbi define for me what exactly the term "strictly according to the law" means?
Answer
Its literal meaning is whatever Jewish law requires without additions that were introduced because of side considerations. Those side considerations can be stricter practices adopted to satisfy the various opinions, or stringency for the sake of morality, or sometimes the addition of a rabbinic decree (and then "strictly according to the law" means Torah-level / of biblical origin).
