Q&A: The Probability of Evolution Occurring
The Probability of Evolution Occurring
Question
The Rabbi argues that the laws of nature dictate the outcome of evolution on the macro level, namely that a variety of species will emerge.
If so, then on almost every planet where there are conditions suitable for life (temperature, water, and the like), life would be produced.
Is that agreed upon? Is the probability of evolution occurring (after the formation of the first chain) high?
Answer
That is not agreed upon, because it is very difficult to calculate that probability. But this is the claim of the neo-Darwinist atheists. I adopt it for the sake of the discussion in order to show that even if it is true, it is still called for to assume that there is a God. I am very curious to discover what would happen on a planet that has suitable conditions (I suspect the probability is still slim), but as far as I know, at this point there is no data.
