Q&A: The Book “Simply to Believe”
The Book “Simply to Believe”
Question
Hello Rabbi, have you read Moshe Rat’s book “Simply to Believe”? I got the impression that on many issues he formulates things you’ve written in the past, and I’m curious whether there are any significant points in his remarks that you disagree with.

Answer
I haven’t read the book. He is a student of mine, and we have spoken quite a bit. So it’s likely that there is some similarity.
Discussion on Answer
Michi’s softer version.
I went onto his site (Mysterium)
and was captivated by his sweetness.
For example, the article “The Wizard of Oz and the Wizard of Mount Sinai.”
I enjoyed seeing that a student of someone as rational as Michi
can be so connected to the tough, somewhat dry Lithuanian approach (Occam’s razor) of our teacher Abraham on the one hand,
and mystical and connected to esoteric teachings, demons, and dragons on the other.
I think that’s Michi’s greatness:
to let each student develop in his own way and mode of thought,
without creating a congregation of imitators crying out “Holy, holy.”
Michi is the attribute of judgment;
Moshe is a grandfather full of mercy.
Friends, save the eulogies for the memorial book. No need to waste them all here. 🙂
Michi, at the rate of the demons you’ve been stirring up lately…
🙂
In my opinion, Moshe Rat is the less intelligent and slightly more bizarre version of the Rabbi. For better and for worse… (more accessible, less rigorous)
