The Goals of Religious Zionism Today

Question

Hello Rabbi, I wanted to ask what, in your opinion, the goals of Religious Zionism should be today regarding the state, and how they can be implemented. I feel that in my environment it’s very unclear to people what their goals are and what they’re striving for. I know this is a big question, but I’d still be glad if you could say something about it. Thanks, and have a good day!

Answer

Hello,
I don’t think Religious Zionism is supposed to have goals with respect to the state. One should try to make sure the state is run properly, each person according to what he understands to be proper. As for religion and state, in my opinion the right approach is separation, so I wouldn’t set goals in that area. In my view, Religious Zionism is an anachronistic concept and not relevant today. It was relevant before the establishment of the state, when there was a debate over whether to be Zionist or not. A more relevant concept is modern religiosity, and that has goals (like the general public), the main one being to neutralize the goals of Religious Zionism and Haredism, which by and large aspire to the same goals.
