Q&A: On Impossibilia
On Impossibilia
Question
What compels us to say that God is subject to logic? Admittedly, the claim that God can create a triangle with four sides is nonsense and equivalent to a meaningless sequence of syllables, but perhaps the deficiency is only in us. “And if it is empty, it is from you.” We, as limited human beings, cannot grasp with our intellect a victory over logic, but the Almighty really is capable of doing so.
How can one sort out, from the concepts of “omnipotence” and “logic,” the results of the clash between them? Wouldn’t it make more sense to adopt an agnostic position on this issue?
Answer
Even if the deficiency is in us, nothing said here has any meaning, and therefore at least from our perspective it cannot be said.
