Q&A: The Revelation at Mount Sinai as a Priestly Implantation
The Revelation at Mount Sinai as a Priestly Implantation
Question
Hello,
After Rabbi Michael dismissed my words regarding the famous argument about aliens as the revelation at Mount Sinai (even though he had no reasonable argument at all for why not, contrary to my knockout arguments), I took it upon myself to publish the following conspiracy: the tradition of the giving of the Torah was distorted because of priests hungry for money, honor, and profit.
The argument goes roughly like this:
- It is not plausible that God would reveal Himself to a nation and perform the miracles of the revelation at Mount Sinai.
- Every group needs to have a history.
- The ancient Jewish people had no history because they developed out of the Canaanites, and therefore greedy priests, who always held the status of the chosen religious class, decided to invent an entire history so that they could become rich.
- The priests have a guild (you cannot join and become a priest), and an astronomical amount of tax money is transferred to them.
So why doesn’t the Rabbi assume that the revelation at Mount Sinai is an invention of the priests?
Answer
To that I will respond to your new knockout argument as follows: it is not plausible that I should deal with such a collection of speculations. Since it is not likely that a person raised them seriously, it is proven that whoever raised them was a troll. Q.E.D.
Because the question is demagogic, the Rabbi refrained from answering, so I’ll do it for you. That way you’ll understand the Rabbi’s intention and what he meant.
1. First of all, the Children of Israel all left Egypt with great wealth.
2. People saw miracles every day as they traveled in the wilderness.
3. The priests and the Levites do not have landed inheritance like the rest of the Jewish people.
4. Aaron’s staff blossomed and produced almonds in the wilderness, and don’t think there was some tree in the wilderness from which Moses took a branch and planted it in place of Aaron’s staff as if he had tricked everyone.
5. At first the priests were the firstborn, if you didn’t know, and only afterward did the priests become from the tribe of Levi…
