Q&A: Are Atheists Exempt from Commandments?
Are Atheists Exempt from Commandments?
Question
Hi dear Michi, I saw in one of the discussions that you wrote that you discussed a mamzer, and also that an atheist is exempt from commandments. I couldn’t understand how that exempts him… Doesn’t he still have the moral imperative to strive for the truth?
Another thing I saw that you apparently agreed with was that if I accept proof that there is a God, that is a sign that from the outset, at an unconscious level, I already believed in Him—I just needed confirmation. And conversely, retroactively a person had already denied God, but just supposedly needed proof of it, Heaven forbid. (Though after my own investigations I actually ended up finding evidence that strengthened faith and not, Heaven forbid, denial… The question is whether it simply wasn’t already embedded in me.)
Again, it may be that I didn’t understand well. I looked on the blog for other places on the topic but didn’t find any.
Thank you very much,

Answer
See my article on causing a secular Jew to stumble into sin.
I didn’t understand the second question.
Thanks, I’ll take a look—surely that will already answer everything.
