Q&A: The Porn Law and Censorship
The Porn Law and Censorship
Question
What does the Rabbi think about the “porn law and censorship”? Is that the role of the state, or is it a matter for each family? Does the state have the right to coerce things like this?
Answer
It really is problematic, and in principle it would be preferable not to interfere in this. Especially in a society that has value-based disagreements, it is not advisable for the state to intervene in value-laden issues. On the other hand, there is a limit. On the practical level, there is no choice but for the state to look after the interests of its citizens. I think that at least as protection for minors, or for a sub-community that does not want this and other parts of society are imposing it on them, there is room for state involvement.
