Abroad and Kashrut
Question
I would be happy if you could please answer two questions for me..
1. If a person is abroad in a completely vegan restaurant, and one of the dishes contains margarine, why is that dish not kosher? (Of course there is no issue of food fit for a king’s table with regard to the dish, and there is no vinegar, wine, or any other kind of alcohol.)
2. Is apple cider vinegar abroad kosher?
Thank you very much 🙂
Answer
- I don’t know. I’m not familiar with the composition of margarine and what they commonly put into it.
- I don’t know.
For questions like these, it is worth turning to kashrut experts who know the production processes and the foods. As far as I know, the Chief Rabbinate has a department that deals with kashrut guidelines abroad, and you can call and ask.
