Q&A: Special Clothing for Prayer
Special Clothing for Prayer
Question
I asked on the site a few days ago; maybe the question got missed — as far as I know, there is a rule that for prayer one should wear special clothing (or maybe only respectable clothing, and not necessarily special clothing?). Does that mean there is a need to pray wearing a suit? Among many Haredim, people pray with a hat. Does that come from this Jewish law, or is it purely culture?
Answer
My apologies. I remember seeing it, and I do not know why I did not answer. One should be dressed respectably, not necessarily specially. The suit that is customary in Haredi society is also not special clothing for prayer. It is purely cultural, because culture is what determines what counts as respectable clothing.
Thank you very much!
