Insects in Food
Question
Hello Rabbi,
What is the Rabbi’s opinion regarding halakhic institutes that identify Jewish law problems and also offer solutions (with “their fee built in”), such as the presence of insects in food and the obligation to use supervised produce?
Best regards, Benjamin
Answer
There is something distasteful about it, but it is certainly not forbidden.
Discussion on Answer
The validity of rulings is not connected to their source. One has to examine the arguments themselves, not the people making them.
Does that “distastefulness” create a concern that these are “impure” halakhic rulings based on interests? If so, if it is “certainly not forbidden,” then before even getting to whether something is forbidden, shouldn’t one first explain what halakhic validity these rulings have?
