Philosophy

Question

With God's help,
Rabbi Michael Abraham has written a great deal about the nonsense that pretends to be philosophical systems, coming mainly from the French. I wanted to know whether the Rabbi includes Henri Bergson among them. My impression is that, unlike figures such as Levinas and the like, he actually does make meaningful claims. And it seems to me that the Rabbi also mentions him in one of his books (I think The Science of Freedom, though I’m not sure).
Thank you very much!

Answer

I’m far from being an expert on Bergson, but I have found quite a few meaningful claims in his writings (alongside others that are not). My impression is that he is much better than his French colleagues. But since he is not analytical enough, I still sense in him that lack of sharpness characteristic of the French (as opposed to the Anglo-Americans).
