All in all, it’s fairly trivial, though fundamentally correct.
As has been his way for some time now, here too he makes some crude logical mistakes. For example, at the beginning he writes:
It is a dangerous mistake to imagine that without national feelings we would live in a liberal paradise. It is more likely that we would live in tribal chaos. Peaceful, prosperous, and liberal countries such as Sweden, the Netherlands, and Switzerland generally benefit from a strong and established national identity. By contrast, countries whose inhabitants do not have a strong national feeling, such as Afghanistan, Somalia, and the Congo, tend to suffer from violence and poverty.
The question, of course, is which way the correlation runs. Is it the lack of national feeling that creates the violence and poverty, or is it that because of the violence and poverty, national feelings dissipate? And so on.
