Soul and the World to Come
Question
Good evening, Rabbi. I have two questions, but they’re very long and maybe they would need a whole discussion or a whole article to answer them:
1) What is the World to Come? a0
2) What are the soul, the life-force, and the spirit, and what is the difference between them? a0
a0
Thank you!
Answer
- I don’t know. Something in which the soul resides after the death of the body.
- All of these are the mental components of a person (that which goes beyond his physical matter). The distinction between them is a kabbalistic one, and its common meaning is that there is a hierarchy: the soul is the highest (something divine that is within us), the spirit is below it, containing the emotions and consciousness, and the life-force is the vital part that animals also have. But all of these are speculations that nobody really has any idea about, and I don’t see any point in dealing with them.
