Q&A: The 16 Personality Types Model
The 16 Personality Types Model
Question
Hello,
What do you think about the 16 personality types model (MBTI)?
I took the questionnaire several times, and it turned out that my personality type is ‘INFJ’.
After a superficial review of the personality, mainly through posts shared by others who have the “same personality type,” I feel unusually identified with the traits they share.
A question that connects to the one I asked at the outset: in your opinion, is a question like, “Will personality type XXXX connect with personality type YYYY?” a valid one?
Or, “What kinds of jobs are suitable for personality type XXXX?”
I would add that, according to what I checked, people engaged in science are usually categorized as having the personality type ‘INTP’ (Logician), but it is worth noting that Niels Bohr was categorized as type ‘INFJ’ (at least according to what I read), and that did not prevent him from being a great physicist.
In short, does defining a person’s personality (assuming it is correct) predict his success (to a large extent) in a particular area?
Thank you very much!
Answer
I don’t think I have the authority or the knowledge to answer these questions. In general, I have very limited trust in psychological tests like these. And it is certainly not right to take them too seriously and draw conclusions from them about success in different fields of work and the like. Even if there is something to them, at most they give a rough direction, if that.
