Q&A: Grounds for Releasing a Vow
Grounds for Releasing a Vow
Question
With God's help,
Hello Rabbi,
A few years ago I made a vow. I regretted it, and after asking a rabbi I went to have the vow annulled. During the annulment I explained the vow and said that I regretted it, and afterward I recited to the three men the annulment formula printed in the prayer books, and they answered, "Permitted," etc. After studying the topic recently, I noticed that there had not been a process of finding grounds for release on the part of the person to whom I explained the vow, and I wanted to ask whether I need to do a new annulment of vows because of this, and if so, what exactly needs to be made sure is included?
Thank you very much
Answer
In principle, a vow can be annulled on the basis of regret as well, not only through specific grounds for release. True, the halakhic decisors disagree about this, but Maimonides rules that regret alone is enough. Even if his view has shifted to a different position.
Discussion on Answer
I don't think so. Combine that with the annulment of vows that is done on the eve of Rosh Hashanah.
Thank you.
So according to the Rabbi's view, there's no need to be stringent and do another annulment?
