Can You Learn Science on Your Own?
Question
Hello,
I have a question that is not directly related to Torah; I hope that’s okay.
The question is:
Can someone very talented teach themselves science (physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and so on) for personal enrichment from sites like Udemy, Coursera, and the like, or without physically attending academia, will the material not be fully understood, or will other elements be missing?
Put differently: does physically going to academia provide things that cannot be gained through self-study?
Thank you
Answer
I don’t have a general answer. For most people it’s hard to learn this on their own. But there are rare people who can. It depends on your abilities.
