Q&A: Incorrect Explanation
Incorrect Explanation
Question
If I have an idea for a nice lecture, but I know it isn’t correct, yet the listeners will definitely be impressed and won’t be able to tell at all that it’s built on a mistake—am I allowed to give the lecture? This is not about practical Jewish law, but about an explanation of an opinion in the Talmud that is not the halakhic ruling.
Answer
It is forbidden to lie or mislead. You can give the entire lecture and then explain why it is not correct. That way you both gain a lecture, teach them a lesson and a learning skill, and also speak the truth.
Discussion on Answer
It seems to me there is an option to mark on a given thread that you want an update when something is posted there. But you should contact Oren, the site editor.
A suggestion for improvement: there should be an option to mark a question that looks interesting, and then get an update when there’s an answer. Because what happens right now is that sometimes you see an interesting question that doesn’t yet have an answer, and then when you go back into the site a few hours later you can no longer find the answer, because you didn’t write down for yourself what the title was.
A general suggestion, of course not related to the question.
