Q&A: From when is Isaac blessed?
From when is Isaac blessed?
Question
In chapter 25, verse 5 — “And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac” — Rashi writes that the Holy One, blessed be He, gave Abraham the blessings through “and be a blessing,” and it was in his power to pass them on to whomever he wished, and he passed them on to Isaac.
And on verse 11 — “And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed Isaac his son” — he brings, in the name of another interpretation, that Abraham was afraid to bless him (because Ishmael came from him). He said: Let the Master of blessings come and bless whomever is good in His eyes; and after Abraham’s death, the Holy One, blessed be He, grants Isaac the blessings.
Seemingly a contradiction.
Answer
I already wrote that aggadic literature and biblical interpretation are not my field. [I do not see how you are raising a difficulty from one interpretation against another. In your second source, two interpretations were brought.]
