Q&A: Music
Music
Question
Is it permitted to listen to music throughout the entire year? After all, there is no permission for this from any accepted halakhic authority—not from the Talmud, not from Maimonides, not from the Shulchan Arukh, not from the Rema, and not from the Mishnah Berurah—and nevertheless the Jewish people in Israel and abroad listen to music without batting an eyelid. I wanted to hear from you whether nowadays there is some sort of permission (which perhaps has still not been officially published). Thank you in advance.
Answer
There are dozens of surveys online. Here is one: https://olamot.net/shiur/%D7%9E%D7%95%D7%96%D7%99%D7%A7%D7%94-%D7%91%D7%96%D7%9E%D7%9F-%D7%94%D7%96%D7%94
By the way, even listening to music that was originally prohibited does not necessarily mean anything played on musical instruments. It refers to music for the sake of rejoicing.
