Q&A: It Becomes Permitted to Him
It Becomes Permitted to Him
Question
“Once a person has committed a transgression and repeated it, it becomes as if permitted to him”—meaning, his hesitations and reservations stop, and he does it as a matter of course and at every opportunity, as though there were nothing wrong with it. Why does this happen? Is it only with transgressions between a person and God, such as not putting on tefillin, or also with transgressions between one person and another, which are understandable and obviously justified commandments even in the eyes of the sinner, so that it cannot be that he does not recognize the authority of that prohibition?
Answer
These are questions for a psychologist. My impression is that this applies to all kinds of commandments.
