Question
Hello, honored Rabbi.
In your book "God Plays Dice," you explained that there is evidence for the existence of God even without relying on tradition, but rather from philosophy. Such a proof (built on rejecting an infinite regress) leaves two options. Either to assume the existence of an intelligent designer who exists in a different dimension from ours, or to continue investigating the dimension of time, for example, and admit our current ignorance.
My question is: are there additional proofs that tip the scales in favor of the first option, aside from, say, intuition?
Answer
As I explained there, this ignorance is not merely "current" but essential. We will never be able to present a complete causal chain. Therefore this is not what is called a "God of the gaps," because this is a gap that science cannot close. In other words, the question is about scientific inquiry, not a question within scientific inquiry; or outside the laws, not within the laws.
