Conservative Judaism is one of the three major streams that exist in modern Judaism. It holds that the authority of tradition derives first and foremost from its acceptance by the people and the community over the generations, and less from its source in any kind of divine revelation. Accordingly, Conservatives see Jewish law as binding and at the same time as subject to constant historical influence, and they believe that halakhic ruling should reflect both a scientific-critical approach to the sources and the way of life of the broader public. Likewise, the movement avoids unequivocal theological determinations and maintains broad pluralism on questions of faith.
