Q&A: Today? Or at least ? years of Sabbatical and Jubilee cycles?
Today? Or at least ? years of Sabbatical and Jubilee cycles?
Question
On the one hand, any day he may come.
On the other hand, he builds the Temple (that takes time…), and gathers in the dispersed of Israel (it’s already been 140 years since the First Aliyah… apparently gathering us in takes time), and the Sabbatical and Jubilee cycles return (the plural implies at least 2, so apparently at least ? years).
So is it within a day?
Or at least ? years?
It occurred to me in my poverty of understanding that the day will arrive, and in the meantime he will benefit from the presumption of doubt, and it will become definitively known retroactively in another ? years whether he succeeded and really is the one they prophesied about.
Then retroactively, he really did come today.
Does this seem right to the Rabbi?
Answer
Not a Chabadnik and not a Sabbatean, but apparently he didn’t speak Hebrew.
