Q&A: The Rabbi’s View on the Teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov
The Rabbi’s View on the Teachings of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov
Question
Hello,
What is the Rabbi’s opinion of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov?
He appeals to me, but I’m hesitant to study his thoughts (or his feelings?), because I don’t know whether there is logic in what he says and something to learn from him, or whether he is simply offering existential poetry.
Answer
I don’t understand this kind of question. Try it and enjoy. If you find logic in his words and accept them — then accept them, and if not — then not. What is the point of discussing a priori whether to learn from someone and whether his words are logical? It seems that you assume Rabbi Nachman is an authority, and only then is there room for the question whether to accept his words as is just because he said them. But that is not something I would suggest attributing to anyone (and not only to Rabbi Nachman). As for the question itself, these texts don’t really speak to me, but that could certainly be a personal matter.

Or maybe he assumes the Rabbi is the authority…
