Is There a God?

Question

I heard the claim that the Rabbi would not state explicitly that “there is a God.” I’d be happy to get an answer (no need for a proof): is there or is there not a God?

Answer

The answer is written and stated in dozens of places in my books, in my articles, in interviews, and of course here on the site. So why rely on rumors?

Could the Rabbi send me to a few places? It’s important that the phrase “there is a God” or “there is no God” appear, so that it will be unambiguous.
Thanks very much 🙂

No. Whoever wants to busy himself with nonsense can waste his own time.

Forgive me, I’ll give some background to my question.
My friend and I (he used to be Religious Zionist) have theological discussions from time to time.
One of his claims is that there is no God—yet he is a student of the Rabbi.
He is very rational and says that he relies on you and learns from you because you are rational. When I asked him whether it could be that you would claim that there is a God, he said there’s no chance (because you’re rational)…
In addition, he claimed that if the Torah and the commandments are true, he would observe them on the spot, and it’s clear to me that your claim that “there is a God” is a first step on the way there.

That’s why I asked this question: to show him that you (his rabbi) do in fact claim that there is a God.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find on the site the unequivocal argument in the words “there is a God.”

I’ll just note that I need this exact wording because my friend tends to split hairs, and I don’t want to leave room for imagination…
So I’d be glad if you could point me to it. Thank you very much!

And I have a black belt in karate even though I was born without arms and legs.

I really don’t understand. To the best of my understanding, there is a God. All right? I said it.
Do I need to say this when I devote millions of words to it, books and articles? I really don’t understand this hair-splitting. I have a book with proofs of His existence. Does that mean I believe or not? I have books attacking Dawkins, who says He does not exist. Doesn’t that mean I believe? What exactly are you all talking about over there? Did someone there forget to take his pills?

Hello, in which book does the Rabbi prove the existence of God? Thanks.

K (2022-09-13)

I’ll answer in his place:
God Plays Dice — the book against Dawkins.
The First Existent, Part I — gathers evidence for the existence of God and the truth of the Jewish religion.
Also, it appears in other books.
A book that is also against materialism (though you didn’t ask) is Science of Freedom.

There are also notebooks here on matters of faith / belief. They’re not exactly what there is in The First Existent, but they mention it fairly well.

The First Existent is devoted almost entirely to that. In God Plays Dice I discussed a proof from evolution. In Two Carts, note 25, I brought another proof.

K (2022-09-13)

Note 25 is also mentioned in The First Existent… though there is a difference between the arguments, to the best of my recollection.

The funniest thing is someone who says that a rationalist can’t arrive at recognition of God’s existence.
It’s really so stupid that it’s amazing.
