I’m a philosophy and history student (with some guilty feelings because of your claims and a certain degree of disdain toward those faculties). I’ve received a great deal from you. In fact, it was because of you that I went to study philosophy at all—ironically enough, even though I had been on a science-oriented track. You could say that my philosophical and religious outlook was shaped to a great extent by your words. One of the things I learned from you is the ability to discuss things on their merits, in a substantive way, without labels. That’s really not something to be taken for granted. And precisely because of that, after listening to the podcast "The Metaphysical Circus," in which you dealt with Ilam Gross’s claims (or non-claims), I’m amazed by your exceptional ability to respond calmly to so much irrelevance and demagoguery, and to almost everything except actually addressing the arguments themselves. That only strengthens the claim that renowned scientists may be philosophers for a penny. I really appreciate your patience and your standing by the standards you preach, even when it gets on your nerves.
