Q&A: Newspapers on the Sabbath
Newspapers on the Sabbath
Question
Hello, honorable Rabbi. a0
I really enjoy reading newspapers on the Sabbath—columns, political columns, articles, and so on. I should note that I genuinely enjoy it; when I don’t have newspapers on the Sabbath, I even feel disappointed. Now I’ve discovered that some prohibit this, and even on weekdays. I’m asking whether, in your opinion, it is permissible to read newspapers on the Sabbath. And if so, under what circumstances, how much, when, what exactly to read and what to skip, and so on. a0
Thank you, honorable Rabbi. a0
Answer
There is room to permit it, as long as it does not include advertisements related to commerce.
