Q&A: Articles and Programs Broadcast on the Sabbath
Articles and Programs Broadcast on the Sabbath
Question
Have a good week, Rabbi,
is it permitted to watch games/programs that were originally broadcast on the Sabbath? (If so, is it permitted immediately after the Sabbath ends?)
An additional question: is it permitted on Saturday night to listen to a radio program that began on the Sabbath (a live broadcast)?
Thank you very much
Answer
In principle, if this could have been done on a weekday, then it is permitted to listen on Saturday night. If the program was recorded on the Sabbath from an event that took place on the Sabbath, some prohibit it, but in my opinion there is room to be lenient.
Discussion on Answer
What difference is there between a program that was broadcast entirely on the Sabbath and a program that started on the Sabbath and continues into Saturday night? It's only easier.
And what about a program that began on the Sabbath?
For example, listening at six-thirty to a radio program that started at six, when at six it was still the Sabbath
