Q&A: Recommendations for Information Sources
Recommendations for Information Sources
Question
Hello Rabbi,
Do you know of a book and/or a series of lectures that provides a proper answer to the following two topics:
1. Biblical criticism: a proper and comprehensive response to the main claims of biblical critics.
2. The sacrificial service in the future: in the modern lifestyle we live in, talk about sacrificial worship sounds like an ancient ritual that is hard to believe will return. I would be glad for a recommendation as to whether there is a book that tries to deal with this conceptual shift, and how whatever changes there may be stand in relation to the sources.
Thank you!
Answer
I don't know of any. There are many books, and you can find things online. But people who are more expert than I am will come and suggest some (Maor?).
Discussion on Answer
(I should emphasize that personally I don't deal in "responding," because I'm not engaged in trying to refute the criticism, but rather to discuss the issues in a straightforward scholarly way. But indeed my conclusions, at present, are more conservative on some of these matters.)
I don't know whether this answers the question (I haven't read it), but at least from the summary it sounds like it could be relevant -https://korenpub.co.il/products/torat-hakorbanot?_pos=1&_sid=85015e717&_ss=r
And also a review of the book – https://www.inn.co.il/news/533976
Regarding biblical studies—as an introduction I would read:
Amnon Bazak, Until This Day, Yedioth Books
Joshua Berman, I Believe, Maggid Press
After that you can continue to additional sources. There are also talks of mine online on these topics.
And you're welcome to correspond with me by email.
